Creating a Chromebook Recovery USB

Use this Guide to Create a Chromebook Recovery USB to fix Chromebooks with a damaged OS

What do you do if you’ve spent time wiping Chromebooks and come across one after the wipe that has this message or one similar

If you see this message you can create a help desk ticket and send the device into repair and they can recover the ChromeOS for you.

 

 

  • Sign into your SSO on a Chromebook that is working

 

 

  • Click the small circle in the bottom left corner of screen 

 

  • Click on Chrome Web Store

 

 

  • In the Chrome Web Store Search bar type: Chromebook Recovery Utility and select it from the list.

 

  • Click on Chromebook Recovery Utility

 

 

  • Check to make sure that it says “installed”, if not install it.

 

 

  • In the search bar type in the model number from the Damaged Chromebook Screen and click Continue

 

 

  • Insert your USB into one of the Chromebook USB spots when prompted to do so

 

  • Select your USB from the drop down menu and click on Continue

 

  • Click on Create New to start the process of creating the Chromebook Recovery USB

 

 

  • The process will take some time, click on Done when it says: Success! Your Recovery media is ready

 

  • Plug the USB Chromebook Recovery Tool that you created into the Chromebook with the damaged OS and follow the prompts to recover the Chromebook OS.
