Canvas Cross-List/Rename Courses Tool

Cross-listing allows you to move section enrollments from individual courses and combine them into one course. You can also rename your course at the same time.

If you do not wish to cross-list any sections into one course then you can just rename your
course and not cross-list.

You can do the following with the Crosslist/Rename Tool:

  1. Cross-List and Rename Course

  2. Cross-List and Don’t Rename Course

  3. Only Rename Course

Crosslist and Rename Course

To accesses the Crosslist/Rename Tool:

  1. Click on “Courses” from the universal navigation menu

  2. Click on “All Courses”

  3. Click on “Crosslist/Rename Courses” button

On the “Crosslist Course” pop-up, Click the “HELP” button if you would like to see available options. You can also hover over each step for more help. 

Step 1: Select Main Course: The main course is the course where all your content will reside and all other classes will join. 

Example: I teach Dance I, Dance II, Dance III and Dance VI. I will Cross-List Dance II, Dance III and Dance IV into Dance I. 

“Dance I” will be my main course and where all my content will reside. 

Step 2: Choose Courses to Crosslist Into the Main Course: We suggest you only choose courses that will have the same course material. 

“Click” on each course to select. 

Make sure the box is blue with a white checkmark. 

 

 

 

Step 3: Rename Course: Naming Convention—Include your Campus Name  and anything else you want after that. High School & Junior High make sure to include A/B or SEM1/SEM2 to identify semester after Course Name. 

Click “Submit” to complete the process. 

 

You should see the following message briefly on the screen:

 

“Click” on Dashboard on the universal navigation menu and you will see that nothing has changed. 

 

You must refresh your screen to complete the process and view the change. Click on the “Reload this page” icon on your browser or hit the “F5” key on your keyboard: 

After you refresh/reload the page you will see your changes:

 

Access the Crosslist/Rename Courses tool (steps on page 1). 

 

Step 1: Select Main Course: The main course is the course where all your content will reside and all other classes will join (Example on page 2). 

 

Step 2: Choose Courses to Crosslist Into the Main Course: We suggest you only choose courses that will have the same course material. 

 

Nothing needs to be entered in Step 3: Rename Course since you do not wish to rename course. 

 

Click “Submit” to continue with the process.

Click “Crosslist Only” to complete the process:

 

You should see the following message briefly on the screen:

 

You should see changes on your “Dashboard”, if not refresh your page (instructions on page 4)

Click “Submit” to continue with process.   

 

Click “Update Name” to complete the process:

You should see changes on your “Dashboard”, if not refresh your page (instructions on page 4).
